Novak Djokovic did not change the traditions – Kommersant

Semi-finals of the Australian Open between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer ended in victory for the Serb – 6: 1, 6: 2, 3: 6, 6: 3. The leader of the world ranking came forward in a series of meetings with his famous rival – 23:22 and became the most successful six-time finalist for the Grand Slam tournament itself.

Before 45th meeting of two titans of world tennis, which is the Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, could expect no less stubborn struggle than in last year’s finals of Wimbledon and the US Open, which lasted four sets. The favorite in this case, of course, was a Serb. At the same time it was impossible not to take into account that in five matches en route to the semi-finals 34-year-old Swiss has spent on the court just 9:00 9 minutes – almost three and a half hours ahead of his younger opponent, who in the fourth round has faced fierce resistance Frenchman Gilles Simon.

However, any serious arguments in favor of playing Roger Federer lead was difficult. He has long been physically difficult to withstand the pressure over the court, which has rivals Novak Djokovic. Not surprisingly, the last time at the Grand Slam tournaments, where games are played five games, the Swiss defeated the Serbs almost four years ago – in the Wimbledon-2012. And for this to happen again, and even to the same at a relatively slow coating Australian Open, Novak Djokovic had himself to help Roger Federer.

The problem is that the Serbian tennis player in This day was absolutely not disposed to make any gifts. He came to fight with excellent attitude, immediately suppressing Federer’s power and precision of their attacks from the back of the line.

As a result, the first and second sets lasted a total of 54 minutes during which the Swiss looked absolutely discouraged. At times it even seemed that he deliberately gives some points to try to really tune in the third game.

And then things really changed. Federer for the time managed to seize the initiative and quite clearly had set from the beginning to the end, and then for some time kept hitting.

The end came in the eighth game of the fourth installment in the supply of Swiss . It was rich in beautiful drawings with spectacular endings, but the last two points were for Djokovic, who in the next game confidently took his pitch.

As a result of the victory of the first racket of the world – 6: 1, 6: 2, 3: 6, 6: 3 – 2 hours 19 minutes. Federer used only one break-point of the four, and Djokovic – five out of nine. From now on, the Serb has a positive balance in a series of meetings with all the representatives of the current top 5 – Federer (23:22), Nadal (24:23), Murray (21: 9) and Wawrinka (20: 4). Interestingly, of the number of players who have spent with Djokovic more than one match, only four have won it more often than losing: Croat Ivo Karlovic (2: 1), Chilean Fernando Gonzalez (2: 1), American Andy Roddick (5: 4) and Marat Safin (2: 0). In this last three have completed their careers.

The rival Novak Djokovic will be determined on Friday. They will either Briton Andy Murray, who has three times (2011, 2013, 2015) yielded the Serbs in the decisive Melbourne matches or Canadian Milos Raonic, yet never comes out in the finals of Grand Slam tournaments.

Meanwhile, in the women’s tournament finalists were determined. They were Serena Williams and German Angelique Kerber, beating Agnieszka Radwanska respectively from Poland and Briton Joanne Comte. The first-ranked Williams is now just one step away from his 22th title at the Grand Slam tournaments. As a German to win the first match victory, in fact, it is required to create a miracle. Once it is, however, beaten Williams – at a tournament in Cincinnati in 2012. But losing it more often – five times.
