Biography boxer Roy Jones Jr. – RIA Novosti

Roy Jones was born on January 16th, 1969 in Pensacola, Florida, United States.

At the amateur level, Jones won a silver medal in the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul in weight to 71 kg. Shortly after the game Jones joined the professionals completing amateur career with 121 wins and 13 defeats.

May 6, 1989 Jones at age 20 made his debut in professional boxing in his hometown, winning by knockout Ricky Randall.

May 22, 1993 Jones won his first major title, winning a unanimous decision to Bernard Hopkins in his 22nd fight and becoming champion in the middleweight champion version IBF. He later admitted that he fought Hopkins with a fractured right hand.

November 18, 1994 Jones won his IBF middleweight title in the second middleweight title on points beating James Toney, who had never lost once in 46 battles.

defended five times the title, Jones moved to light heavyweight, winning the title of interim champion by the WBC 22 November 1996 in a battle with Jamaican Mike McCallum.

In his next fight which was held on 21 March 1997, a big-name fighter suffered his first defeat in the professional ring after referee disqualified him for hitting his opponent Montell Griffin, dropped to one knee. However, on August 7 of that year, Jones regained the title in a rematch, knocking out an opponent.

Over the next three years, Jones assembled a collection of four zones – IBF, WBC, WBA and IBF – and four successfully it defended, and then won his first title in the most prestigious heavyweight category in which 1 March 2003 defeated on points WBA champion John Ruiz.

October 27, 2015 Jones in Moscow received the passport of the Russian Federation.

December 12, 2015 , Jones in Moscow lost Brit Enzo Maccarinelli in a ranked match in the heavyweight division.

On a professional ring Jones scored 62 victories (45 – KO) with nine defeats.

Jones also studied music and He has released two studio albums in rap. Boxer also starred in several films, in particular, in one part of the trilogy “The Matrix”.
