Vice-President of FIFA has agreed to extradite to the United States – BBC Russian

Vice President of the International Football Federation (FIFA), the head of the Football Confederation of North and Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF), President of the Football Federation of Honduras Alfred Javito passing on the case of corruption in FIFA, agreed to the extradition to the United States.

“The prosecutor’s office for the Eastern District of New York accusing him of accepting bribes totaling millions of dollars in connection with the sale of marketing rights to football tournaments in Latin America,” – said in a statement on Online Federal Department of Justice and Police (FOJ).

At the first hearing immediately after the arrest Javito contested extradition, so US authorities were forced to send a formal request to Switzerland. During the meeting on Wednesday, the official agreed to the extradition. In the US, it will be delivered within 10 days.

The largest in the history of the FIFA scandal erupted in late May, when in Zurich two days before the presidential elections in the organization at the request of the United States were detained, seven senior officials of the organization on suspicion of corruption .

Javito was arrested in Zurich in December, after which the arbitration chamber of the Ethics Committee of FIFA suspended him for 90 days on the football activities. Total to date charges brought against 14 former and current football officials.

Amid scandal, FIFA president Sepp Blatter was forced to retire. In late December, the FIFA Ethics Committee dismissed Blatter and the head of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Michel Platini from football activities for eight years.
