The new president of the Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) was elected the head of the Ministry of Sports of the Samara region, Dmitry Shlyakhtin. In the open vote was attended by 119 people (66 representatives of regional federations, 53 – regional offices).
At a press conference 48 years Shlyakhtin said the new leadership of the organization must regain its credibility in the eyes of the International Athletics Federation (IAAF) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). “The task is simple – to return to the Russian athletics at the international level, to restore confidence in the eyes of the IAAF and WADA. At this moment we have 10 months,” – Tass quoted him.
The candidates for the presidency were four general secretary Mikhail Butov, the Minister of Sports of the Samara region, Dmitry Shlyakhtin, the former European champion in the high jump Alexander Shustov and head of the team “Gathering of athletes – Sborbeg» police officer Maxim Karamashev, “Kommersant” writes.
The head of the Coordinating Committee of the Russian Olympic Committee Gennady Aleshin said that the active athletes in the new manual VFLA not.

The resignation came amid loud doping scandal in the Russian athletics. Its outcome was the decision of the IAAF to remove all Russian athletes, as well as the disqualification of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency.
