American lawyer Michael Garcia resigned from the ethics committee of FIFA, reports AP. Garcia was dissatisfied with the decision of the federation to publish its report on the investigation into the election hosts the 2018 World Cup and 2022 in an abbreviated form.
Recall that Garcia spent a year studying the circumstances obtaining Russia 2018 World Cup and Qatar – 2022-th. – During the first two years I thought that the committee really benefit ethics of FIFA. In recent months, my opinion has changed – said Garcia. – Act Eckert made me lose confidence in the independence of the committee, which leads me to believe that my role in the investigation came to an end. None of the independent committee, the investigator or the arbitration can not change the culture of FIFA.
Eckert said that the published version of the report is intended to summarize the investigation, but it changes, omissions and additions can not be justified.
