Wrestler Maryanyan Stepan brought the Russian team’s first gold medal at the European Games in Baku. The athlete was the best in Greco-Roman wrestling in the weight category up to 59 kg. In the final he beat Belarusian wrestler Soslan Daurova. Bronze winners were Elman Mukhtarov, Azerbaijani and French Tariq Belmadani.

Earlier, the opening ceremony of the first European Games. It was attended by President of Russia Vladimir Putin, who on the sidelines of the Games were scheduled to hold

talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
