Russian biathlete Lapshin won “bronze” in the sprint race – Russian newspaper

Russian biathlete Timofey Lapshin finished third at the end of the sprint race at the fourth stage of the World Cup on the track Oberhof, Germany. Won by the current holder of the “Big Crystal Globe,” the Frenchman Martin Fourcade, “silver” – from the greatest shooting skiers of our time – the Norwegian Ole Einar Bjoerndalen.

Men’s sprint was supposed to start at noon local time, but was moved 14:30 (16:30 MSK) due to bad weather conditions. Start of the race prevented a very strong wind and warm weather. The snow is almost melted. But the organizers of the two and a half hours were able to “patch up” problem fate of the track, and the wind a little verse, but still is a serious hindrance to the shooting.

The first six athletes (including Russian Evgeny Garanichev) arrived on the firing line, where were shooting from a prone position, unanimously allowed two misses. In the seventh starting number – our Maxim Tsvetkov – and at four misfires. Only Einar interrupted this series of failures in the Biathlon Oberhof. Norway has worked at the turn cleanly and immediately became a candidate for the award.

In addition to Timofey Lapshin, the whole race the Russians did not work for objective reasons. Many were unable to cope with the wind at the shooting range. Even the best sportsman of Russia 2014 Sochi Olympic Champion 2014 in the relay, our brilliant finisher SHIPULIN Anton did not close on two targets as shooting from a prone position, and in the front.

As for Lapshin, which was released on start under 48-set tiebreak, he claimed victory, but summed error last shot at the front. On the last lap Timothy entered into correspondence fight for the third place finisher with an already Norwegian Johannes Be able to win and he literally instant – 0.7 seconds.

This is not the first personal podium Lapshin. Earlier in the 2011/12 season in Hochfilzen (Austria), he won the bronze medal in the sprint, and in the same discipline in the spring of 2012 in the Finnish Kontiolahti won the “silver”. It turns out that the last ascent Lapshin on a pedestal on the basis of individual races has been almost three years. Well, if we talk about the current season, the Lapshin participated in both the “golden” relay – in Hochfilzen and now in Oberhof.
