The statements about a possible boycott of the World Cup in Russia previously repeatedly received from government and football representatives of many foreign countries, including the US, Germany, the UK and the Netherlands.
The most consistently promoted the idea English fans and sports functionaries, but the reason for them was not the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and the defeat of England in the fight for the World Cup in 2018 and 2022 years, the cause of which they consider unfair vote.
In September last year, the European Union considers the possibility of including a new package of anti-Russian sanctions depriving Russia of the right to host the FIFA World Cup, as well as the suspension of its membership in the League and FIFA. This idea was supported by Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Ukraine, Germany, the UK and the US.
