The head of FIDE Ilyumzhinov offered to suspend its powers – RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, December 6 – R-Sport. President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Kirsan Ilyumzhinov offered to suspend its powers until the next Presidential Council, said the director of FIDE in the Russian Federation Berwick Balgabaev.

The meeting of the Presidential Council FIDE held on Sunday in Athens.

“The President of FIDE proposes to temporarily suspend its powers until the next presidential council”, – wrote Balgabaev at Twitter.

In the end of November it became known that the US Treasury included Ilyumzhinov in a sanctions list on Syria. The head of FIDE, according to the Ministry of Finance, was listed as, inter alia, “for financial aid and actions for and on behalf of the Government of Syria and the Central Bank of Syria.” Ilyumzhinov claims itself does not recognize.
