Earlier today Ilyumzhinov offered to suspend its powers As head of FIDE. Nevertheless, he remained head of Chess Federation. In this presidential council has limited his authority in the financial sector of the organization in the United States.
Ilyumzhinov came under the sanctions of the US Ministry of Finance at the end of November. Office suspected him of links with the head of the Central Bank of Syria Adib Mayyalehom, who also is under sanctions. Restrictive measures also affected the bank “Russian Financial Alliance”, one of the beneficiaries of which is the former president of Kalmykia, Ilyumzhinov. The sanctions prohibit the businessman have accounts and real estate in the United States.
Another defendants in the sanctions list is a holder of the citizenship of Russia and Syria George Hasvani, who is suspected of involvement in the oil trade, “Islamic State” (banned in Russia).
Later, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara has evidence of Russia’s participation in the oil trade with IG.
