Committee of FIFA to reform begins on Friday the second meeting – SPORT.RU

Sport.ru / Football. The second of the three working sessions of the Committee on the reform of the International Football Federation (FIFA) will be held in the Swiss capital Bern from 16 to 18 October.

The main purpose of the meeting is to develop proposals for the reform of the organization, which is now in deep crisis. The final form they acquire in the first three meetings of the Committee, the last of them in December. These proposals will be considered at the Extraordinary FIFA Congress, to be held February 26. As noted earlier the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, a member of the FIFA Executive Committee Vitaly Mutko, discussion of reform will be key on the agenda of the Congress, which, by the way, and will elect a new head of the organization. The decision to create a task force to accelerate the process of reform was taken at the FIFA Executive Committee meeting on July 20. The working group was composed of ten representatives from each of Football Confederation. Later it became known that a group headed by a former director general of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Francois Karrar, thanks to the efforts which the Olympic Movement has overcome the crisis in which it appeared as a result of a corruption scandal in 2002.

Now, a similar situation has developed around the FIFA. In late May, broke the biggest scandal in the history of the organization, when in Zurich were detained, seven senior officials of the organization on suspicion of corruption. Total charges were brought against 14 former and current football officials. According to the US Department of Justice, in 24 years they received bribes worth about $ 150 million. At the same time it was reported that Swiss police launched a criminal case against a group of unknown persons, money-laundering during the election of the host countries of World Cup 2010, World Cup 2018 and World Cup 2022.

In October, the Ethics Committee of FIFA announced the suspension from football activities for 90 days because of suspicions of corruption President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Michel Platini, FIFA President Joseph Blatter and General Secretary of FIFA Jerome Valcke.
