The African Football Confederation (CAF) will support the candidacy of the head of the Asian Football Confederation, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa in the presidential elections of the International Football Federation (FIFA). It is reported by Reuters with reference to the Vice-President of CAF Suketu Patel.
Patel on Friday told reporters that the organization, which includes 54 full-fledged association, support Sheikh Salman for election FIFA President.
In the presidential election of FIFA, in addition to Sheikh Salman, will be attended by the former Minister of Housing of South Africa and associate of Nelson Mandela Tokyo Sexwale, a former deputy secretary general of FIFA Frenchman Jerome Champagne, General Secretary of the Union of European football associations (UEFA), Gianni Infantino and the Prince Jordan Ali bin al-Hussein.
The elections will be held by the head of FIFA’s secret ballot. To win in the first round, you need to dial 2/3 of votes, and in the subsequent – 50 percent and one vote. FIFA President is elected for a four-year term.
The current FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter at the Congress on May 29 was re-elected for another term, but four days later announced his resignation on the background of corruption scandals.
Election of the new president of the organization will be held February 26.
