Tennis
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga had a brilliant week, managing to beat held in Toronto at the Masters Series tournament in 1000 of three members of the “big four tennis.” No less successfully performed in Montreal Agnieszka Radwanska, who won the competition category in the final Premier 5. Polish athlete was stronger than Venus Williams.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, as judged by its results, tennis mood. Throughout most of his career, French rider firmly abides among the strong middle peasants. But from time to time it happens glimpses, and then hard times have to everyone who tucked the dimensional descendant of the glorious tribe Tsonga arm.
Take, for example, the results in the current season. Spoke French well, but it cost him to get to the top of tennis, as failure to follow. At the Australian Open Roger Federer stopped him. At Roland Garros and Wimbledon, he lost to Novak Djokovic. At the Masters Series events in 1000 reigned the same picture in Miami Tsonga lost to Andy Murray in Monte Carlo – again Federer in Rome – Milos Raonic. Even at a modest tournament in Marseille, where Tsonga was on the verge of a title, he lost suddenly caught courage Ernests Gulbis.
In general, is not the best background for gaining self-confidence, which shall, as noted by Novak Djokovic, commenting on his performance last week, it is very difficult to be acquired, but it is very easily lost. And when it became known to the grid of the competition in Toronto, also belonging to the category Masters 1000, under the impression that Tsonga just do not shine. In the third round, he went to Djokovic, Murray then on, then on being on the rise Grigor Dimitrov … But somehow Tsonga beat them all and reached the final, where he was confronted by Federer.
Account-person meetings of the Swiss and French tennis players before the game in Toronto was 10: 5 in favor of the former. At the same time of the last eight meetings Tsonga won only one. It would seem that you can safely bet on Federer. After all, despite the fact that the great Swiss tennis player no longer young (he said on Friday 33th birthday), the forces on it to collect on one game, he still lacks.
Do Wilfried Tsonga Jo-these forces, but also turned out to be a little more patience. Throughout the first set, the game was absolutely equal, and it was obvious that one mistake can decide the outcome of games. And it happened, when set, it seemed inevitable move to a tie-break. In the 12th game on the pitch Federer had his first break-point in the game. And this is the only chance Tsonga enough to come forward. The second game to tie-break after all reached. But here, Tsonga was luckier.
Thus, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won the second of his career Masters Series tournament in 1000 (the first victory was in Paris in 2008). Note that so far there was only one French tennis player, who managed to excel in the competition in this category twice – Guy Forget. And Tsonga became the first tennis player since 2002, winning the tournament aforesaid category, beating four opponents at once with a higher seeding. Why, he beat of three representatives of the “big four tennis”, in recent years, almost monopolized the right to win the Grand Slam tournaments.
In the women’s competition, held in Montreal, excelled Agnieszka Radwanska. At the end of Polish athlete met with one of the Williams sisters. And not with the youngest – 32-year-old Serena, what would be expected, and with the older – 34-year-old Venus. Sisters on the WTA competitions were frequent. To Montreal, where they met in the semi-final, their paths crossed tournament 24 times, and a clear advantage, no one was – the score was 13:11 in favor of Serena Williams. However, in recent years, the meeting is quite rare, and they always won the younger sister, is the first player in the world. As for Venus Williams, her best years behind. But this time it was the older sister emerged victorious family conflict – she won in three sets. And got so a chance to win the tournament, relating to the category of the prestigious Premier 5.
Unfortunately, they use American failed. From the very beginning of its confrontation with Radwanska she was in the role of catch. Polish athlete quite easily achieved benefits in the long run – 4: 1. Williams counterattacked and could very well equalized. But Radwanska was still stable. In the second set an American again had to catch up. She recouped account 0: 2, but it was the last thing she was able to do in the match.
