In Moscow on the initiative and with the direct participation of the First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva was a presentation of the debut of the European Games to be held in Baku from 12 to 28 June.

Mehriban Aliyeva heads the organizing committee of “Baku-2015″, as she is a member of the executive committee of the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan. – All sports objects I European games are built, renovated and fully ready for the competition – Mehriban Aliyeva said. – I am happy to have the opportunity to present the Games in Baku-2015 in the capital of friendly Russia. Nice to see representatives of the government of the country, titled sportsmen, people of the business world. Many thanks to those who does a lot in terms of strengthening the friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Russia. To hold the first ever European game – it’s a great honor for our country. We want to set the bar for a decent following organizers of games that are sure to become traditional. I hope that the level of organization of the game in the Baku-2015 will not yield to the Olympic Games.

The program of the European Games in Baku 2015 included competitions 20 sports, 16 of them – Olympic. Total will be played 239 sets of medals. Competitions in archery, athletics, boxing, wrestling, beach volleyball, cycling, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and triathlon will be part of the selection for the Summer Games 2016 in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, so that in Baku Winners of a significant number of Olympic licenses. A Baku judo tournament at the same time and will be the European Championships. So that the value of medals from the masters of the mat will double.

The Russian national team in the majority of subjects act in the strongest part. Only in volleyball for objective reasons will be delegated to the second team, as for national teams will be held parallel to the other official competitions of the international calendar.
